Jerome “Jerry” H. Alferman, age 73, of Washington, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Grandview Care Center.  Jerry was born on August 15, 1943 to the late Herbert Sr. and Hilda (nee Kleekamp) Alferman in Washington.  He was united in marriage to Fritzie Gross at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church on November 23, 1963. Jerry appreciated a wide variety of different items, and was a collector of all those things that he found interesting or valuable.  He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Seisl Council #1121, Hummingbird Club, Washington Volunteer Fire Company, and Easter Monday Fish Club.  Always ready to help others, he also volunteered with the Pregnancy Assistance Center and was a St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church Usher for many years.


A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.  Inurnment will follow at the Church cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday, April 28 from 3 until 8 pm at Miller Funeral Home.  Memorial donations are appreciated to the Pregnancy Assistance Center or St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.


Jerry is survived by his wife, Fritzie; five children, Kevin Alferman of Mexico, Missouri, Tracy and wife Tina Alferman of Washington, Brian Alferman of Washington, Stephanie and husband CJ Sickmeier of Washington, and Jimmy and wife Katie Alferman of Highland, Illinois; fifty-four foster children; eight siblings, Herb and wife Donna Alferman, Diane and husband Floyd Meyer, Carolee and husband Harold Gildehaus, Mary Lou and husband Tom Epple, Roselyn and husband James Heidman, Tom and wife Debbie Alferman, Rick and wife Donna Alferman, and Robin and husband Mark Monzyk; three siblings in law, Richard Altemueller, Mike Gross, and Agnes “Jeanie” and husband Mike Buscher; ten grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings in law, Marlene Altemueller and Carol Gross.
