Alan L. Westrich, 83, of Washington, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017, in Newport News, Virginia. He was born on December 30, 1933 in St. Louis to the late Henry and Elsie (nee Lawrence) Westrich. He was united in marriage to Kathy Moody on June 20, 1981 in Mehlville, Missouri. Alan was a proud US Navy veteran of the Korean War and was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2661 and American Legion Post 218. He retired as Postmaster of the St. Clair, Missouri Post Office after a long career with the US Postal Service; during his tenure as Postmaster, he served as President of the St. Clair Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the St. Clair Lion’s Club. Alan was also a member and Past Exalted Ruler with the Elks Lodge 1559. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and sharing his love and knowledge of trains and aeronautics with his friends and family.

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2017, 11 am at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, inurnment will follow at the Church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, from 4 until 8 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Memorial donations are appreciated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1972 Innerbelt Business Center, St. Louis, MO 63114.

Alan is survived by his wife, Kathy Westrich (nee Moody), of Washington; seven children, Donna Witte of Mehlville, Missouri, Keith Westrich of Boston, Massachusetts, Kevin Westrich of Sedona, Arizona, Debbie Engel and husband Keith of Villa Ridge, Carrie Miller and husband Charles of Lenexa, Virginia, Diane George and husband Ernie of Washington, and Erick Oliver and wife Meredith of Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; other relatives, and friends.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kurt Westrich.
